Due to some issues, I had to re-set up my Kodi TV box for our living room. Seeing as the other one had been in service since 2020, and the issue it was having didn’t seem to be easily fixable using fsck, I finally decided I’d just take the old 120 GB SSD out and put in an 80GB SSD and “start from scratch”.

The old box was running Lubuntu 20.04–though I had upgraded it to 22.04 a few months ago–but I decided to go with Kubuntu 22.04 this time; mostly because I was never able to get Lubuntu to stay awake for when we needed to get on Kodi.

Install was normal: I chose the Minimal, Guided installation. My actual files are being served on a different machine through NFS, so I really don’t need any fancy partitions. After installation, I installed the nfs-common and kodi kodi-pvr-hts packages.

I followed the instructions from my earlier post from 2021 on how to set the tuner and TVHeadend, using the snap of TVHeadend this time instead of the PPA. It was much easier to set up this time, and I can confirm that the steps are the same (except for the user management).

I’m going to try using the Jellyfin Addon to sync my watching with the Jellyfin server that pulls from the same data and see how well it works. I may update this post in the future with information on whether I’ve kept using it or thrown it out the window.
